Zeta Placement Stories 2017: Tugcem

What attracted you to working at Zeta?

I wanted to explore and know the rapidly changing digital environment as I am very aware how critical it is in today’s business world. It made sense to do my placement year if possible with a top line Digital Agency, one that operates in the very hub of international business. I approached Zeta and happily they accepted my application.

What aspects of your job role did you enjoy the most?

I helped manage various social media accounts for Mysteria including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Besides that, I assisted with organising and planning editorial for the brand’s website. I also reviewed Google Analytics and help produce monthly reports for my manager.

Mysteria is an app for up to eight people to play out a murder mystery game usually joining together for a dinner party where they will all dress and act in character. The app is available in both iOS and Android. Mysteria is a new product, breaking new ground and I was given an important marketing role which I really enjoyed.

What have you most enjoyed about working at Zeta?

My favourite aspect about being at Zeta was the people I had the opportunity to work with. They have hugely influenced my career plans and really opened my eyes. My Zeta experience has showed me what it is to be a creative digital marketer and how stimulating it is to work in the digital industry in today’s age.

Zeta is the best place I could have chosen because I really was a part of a talented creative team and importantly they made me feel valued. I didn’t ever dare hope I would be as happy as I have been. I’ve been fully committed to my job, really trying to contribute and be effective and efficient every single work day.

What skill do you think you will go on to further develop?

At the beginning of my pIacement year I knew absolutely nothing about SEO but after working hard and learning more every day I began to appreciate just how cool this aspect of digital marketing actually is. I am very enthusiastic to develop my SEO knowledge even further.

Learning about and using various marketing programs and tools such as Google Analytics, Majestic SEO and Moz; has enabled me to better evaluate and understand my data. I love learning more about these tools and it really helps that I can apply both my numerical and analytical skills for the analysis of results.

In life and business there is always room for improvement and advancement, the learning process is never finished. After searching for ways to further advance and improve my knowledge in this specific area I came across some valuable SEO Certifications and Courses. In particular Google Adwords and Google Analytics Certifications are highly recommended within the industry, so I have decided to take Google Adwords courses during my final year at university. Thereby with hard work and study hopefully being able to achieve the certification.

If you could offer one piece of advice to someone looking to get into digital marketing, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to learn anything new! In the digital marketing sector it is extremely important to demonstrate that you are keen to learn even if it means doing so in your spare time. You need to show that you are proactive and enthusiastic about digital marketing in this ever changing digital centric-world.

Would you recommend doing a placement or internship?

The overall placement experience strengthened my confidence to talk, deliver my ideas and express my thoughts better in general. I have gained very valuable experience and accomplishments to add to my CV, enhance my employability and create an advantage for future job applications.

I would definitely recommend doing a placement year as it is a priceless experience that you won’t find solely from a university course. Placements give students the opportunity to gain skills specific to their subject or industry of choice as well as the employability skills required for real-life work.

I haven’t only gained various knowledge and skills but I have also learned what to expect from working life in the future. I believe I’ve gained a great deal during my placement experience and this will make a huge impact on my future business career. Previously I would never have thought I could be this inspired and passionate about my career.

What will you miss about the Zeta the most?

I definitely will miss the vibrant environment and the office culture. The graffiti on the wall, monthly team building activities and office talks in general. I will miss the supportive people surrounding me. I have made some friends for life here and so happy that I was a part of this amazing team.

Zeta would like to thank Tugcem for the work she has completed alongside the Zeta team in her placement year. Good luck in your final year of University and for the future.
