The Zeta Team Chooses Their Top Five Online Halloween Ads

That’s right folks, it’s that time of year again! Crazy costumes, spooky snacks and pumpkins swamp the streets as the 31st of October rolls around, so here at Zeta we thought we would get into the spirit of things and provide you with five of our favourite online Halloween ads of all time. So come out from behind that sofa and feast your eyes on the most horrific ads the net has to offer!


The recipe to the perfect viral ad is a sought after commodity, but Crest seem to have hit the nail on the head. Take a dash of cute kids, a handful of crazy Halloween costumes and just a sprinkle of vomit – chuck it all into a big steaming cauldron and you have this hilarious and horrifying ad from the toothpaste giants.

Watch as the hapless Crest employee tries to convert the kids to healthy sweets, before conceding defeat.  But at least Crest is there to stop the rot of the sweetest day of the year.


A TV ad first and foremost, Snickers first ever Halloween ad slithered its way into the web before going viral via sites such as Buzzfeed, Huffington Post and Consumerist.

A wandering shopper, going by the name of Mrs Jensen, finds her accosted by a larger than life old women wearing one hell of a creepy mask.  With horrible distended arms and a freaky mask the ghoul begins hurling tons of Snickers into the womans trolly telling her in a creepy warbling voice “the kids loooovvvee Snickers.” I challenge you not to shiver with the gentle caress of Mrs Jensen’s face and not to laugh at the ads conclusion.


Following their string of zombie themed ads last year, GiffGaff had to push the boat out even further in 2013.  With the message “Different Takes Guts”, GiffGaff offers us a gruesome and sometimes too literal take on their message to clients.

The video is only a few days old so response has been limited but you can’t accuse them of not following their own message.  Guts, gore, dancing and a swimming pool.  If that doesn’t intrigue you then god knows what will.

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

The Heart and Stroke Foundation produced this insanely high quality viral campaign under the the banner #TheUndeading.

Sure everybodies using zombies at the moment, but this series of short youtube clips are a step above the rest, with awesome production value CPR performing zombies and of course plenty of guts and gore.

This has to be one of the top heart attack awareness campaigns ever seen, let alone just for Halloween ads.  Although I expect Vinnie Jones might have a word or two to say about that.

Ok, so this list was feeling a little dominated by zombies so I thought I would mix it up and get back to some more traditional scare tactics. launched this earlier in the month and cleverly incorporated the haunted house theme into their hotel booking service.  We’re not sure whether or not this is going to turn potential guests on or off, but it definitely took advantage of the Halloween activities.
